PLAINS TWP. – U.S. Marine Cpl. Timothy Wirth seduced the ladies with a karaoke version of “All These Things That I’ve Done” by The Killers.

It seemed to do the trick as Wilkes-Barre residents Kim Woodrosky and Nicki Pimental were the first two ladies to get into a bidding war over a man in uniform.

Pimental won the war at $30 Tuesday night at the Woodlands Inn & Resort’s Executive Lounge during the first “Date A Marine” auction coordinated by the Northeastern and Wyoming Detachments of Marine Corps League to benefit the local Toys for Tots campaign.

“I think the best money I’ve ever spent is buying a man,” Pimental said with a laugh.

Cpl. Charles Bowman, originally of Roselle Park, N.J., was the second Marine auctioned.

The 26-year-old admitted it initially felt a little awkward to be auctioned. Knowing it was to help deserving children outweighed any oddness he felt.

Staff Sgt. Stephen Leskoven got the idea for the Marine auction from a similar event held in Stroudsburg a few years ago, when he was auctioned off himself for $235.

“It is meant to be a fun thing. Bring the adults out to have a few drinks and take part in something other than giving toys,” Leskoven said.

Woodlands management officials also donated a $50 gift card to Toys ‘R’ Us for each Marine at the event, for a total of $1,000. No final figures were available on how much money the Marines raised
